Improving clinical quality is an interdisciplinary process aimed at raising standards of care and assistance, with the goal of improving healthcare outcomes for patients, also following the principles of safety, effectiveness, sustainability, equity, timeliness and patient-centered care.
The Clinical Performance Information System - CPIS is a software solution that allows all Humanitas professionals to access quality indicators for the Hospital, their own Operating Unit and their personal performance.
CPIS includes more than 300 indicators, which can be divided into cross-functional and specific indicators. For many indicators, numerical quality targets are defined and periodically presented in the company’s Tableaux de Bord.
Cross-functional indicators, common to all operating units, refer to the current work priorities across the entire hospital. These indicators refer to:
- outcome indicator
- safe behaviors (International Patient Safety Goals)
- infection prevention and control
- risk factors
- patient experience and satisfaction
- infrastructure management and safety
Specific indicators are aimed at improving certain clinical pathways or hospital services, which are essential to the work of the Operating Units and services.

SEGE took part in the new CPIS project, working together with the Humanitas Quality Team along two parallel and interconnected directions: re-design and re-engineering. Service design approaches and tools, agile web development and integration with IT systems and databases made it possible to:
- capitalize on the company’s existing information resources
- provide adequate operational support to users through a proper user experience
- ensure respect for privacy
All this in order to offer patients better quality healthcare services.
